Abstract
Background: Orphanages are communities at high risk of dengue fever transmission. Living in a group population makes transmission through mosquito bites more rapid among residents. Environmental conditions such as stagnant water and garbage can become breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Objective: To increase the knowledge of orphanage residents about the transmission of dengue fever and how to prevent it. Method: The activity was educational, using PowerPoint and simulations of the Snakes and Ladders game about dengue fever. Before and after the counseling, knowledge scores were measured. Result: The average knowledge score before the counseling was 87.78, and after it was 96.11. Participants had a Good-level of knowledge of 86.7% before counseling, and increased to 100% afterward. This increase in results was highly significant in the Wilcoxon test (p = 0.002). Conclusion: Participants' knowledge increased significantly after participating in counseling and the Snakes and Ladders game simulation.
