Abstract
Background: Diarrhea remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, particularly among elementary school-aged children who are more vulnerable due to the low implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) and inadequate practice of Handwashing with Soap (CTPS). Boyolali Regency is among the regions with a high incidence rate in 2024, reporting 8,924 cases of diarrhea across all age groups. Objective: To improve elementary school students’ knowledge regarding diarrhea prevention through the implementation of PHBS and the promotion of CTPS practices. Method: This study employed health counseling and interactive educational approaches using poster media, group discussions, question-and-answer sessions, educational games (puzzle-based activities), and pre-test and post-test evaluations. The activity was conducted on February 3, 2026, at MI Muhammadiyah Randualas, involving 16 sixth-grade students as participants. Result: The findings demonstrated an increase in the average knowledge scores of the students. For diarrhea-related material, the mean score increased from 78.13 to 96.87. For CTPS-related material, the mean score improved from 81.88 to 94.38. Conclusion: Interactive health education methods are effective in enhancing students’ knowledge of diarrhea prevention and proper handwashing practices with soap and water (HWWS).
