Abstract
Background: The demand for geriatric patient services at PKU Muhammadiyah Mayong Hospital is increasing, which involves routine checks and medical rehabilitation. In this case, special and continuous efforts are needed to maintain a prime level of health, namely by providing education about dementia and brain gymnastics can help improve the knowledge of elderly patients and families to carry out early prevention of dementia cases, so that educational activities with the PKRS team and the geriatric team were carried out at the Outpatient Clinic of PKU Muhammadiyah Mayong Hospital with geriatric patient participants and families. Objective: To provide education to the elderly at the Outpatient Clinic of PKU Muhammadiyah Mayong Hospital, Jepara, about the importance of early prevention of dementia, one of which is through brain gymnastics. Method: The activity was carried out through interactive lectures on dementia and direct simulations of brain gymnastics practice. Result: When the pre-test and post-test were carried out before and after education on knowledge, the results of the knowledge category before education showed that some were lacking by 70.2%. After education, the elderly's knowledge category increased by most, by 37.8%. Conclusion: One of the interventions given for early prevention of dementia (Alzheimer's) can be done by doing brain gymnastics. Brain gymnastics has various benefits, including preventing cognitive decline, reducing stress levels in the elderly, improving memory function and improving the mental health of the elderly.
