Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a global health problem whose prevalence increases with age. Hypertension screening in the elderly is an important step in the early detection and prevention of complications. Objective: To determine the effectiveness and benefits of routine hypertension screening in the elderly. Method: Hypertension screening measured blood pressure in 151 elderly individuals aged 60 years and over. Furthermore, education was provided about hypertension and how to prevent it. Result: most of the people of Grogolan village suffered from hypertension, as many as 94 people (62.3%), while those who did not suffer from hypertension were 57 (37.7%). This screening also increased the awareness of the elderly about the importance of controlling blood pressure. Conclusion: Routine hypertension screening is effective in early detection and education of the elderly, thus improving the quality of life of the elderly.
