Abstract
Background: Snacks currently play a fairly important role in providing energy intake for school-age children. Usually, children buy snacks during recess without caring whether the snacks consumed are healthy. Therefore, snacking habits in children need to be directed properly so that children's health status remains optimal by providing health education about healthy snacks. Objective: This education is carried out so that children gain increased attitudes, values โโ, and knowledge about healthy snacks. Method: The education activity was carried out in a classroom attended by students in grades 4 and 5. The community service team first conducted ice-breaking with the students and continued with a pre-test containing an assessment of attitudes and knowledge about healthy and unhealthy snacks. Then, the team played an educational video, then explained the healthy snack material with a creative book media entitled "Healthier with Healthy Snacks". Furthermore, pop-up paper games were held about choosing healthy and unhealthy snacks. In the final session, the team gave a post-test and distributed snacks in the form of biscuits to each student. Result: Counseling activities increased students' attitude and knowledge scores as indicated by the average pre-test attitude score of 25.37 increasing to 31.76 in the post-test results, and the average student knowledge score of 6.18 in the pre-test increasing to 8.29 in the post-test results. Conclusion: Counseling was effective based on the average increase in students' attitude and knowledge scores in the post-test. Counseling about healthy snacks needs to be actively echoed in schools so that children's awareness increases and they are wiser in consuming snacks.
