Preeklamsi merupakan salah satu penyebab langsung kematian pada ibu hamil. Kasus kematian ibu di Kabupaten Tegal tahun 2021 sejumlah 30 kasus dengan total pemicu kematian tertinggi disebabkan oleh covid-19 berjumlah 12 kasus (40%), hipertensi berjumlah 9 kasus (30%), perdarahan berjumlah 6 kasus (20%), dan pemicu lain-lain berjumlah 3 kasus (10%).
