Reaksi transesterifikasi merupakan reaksi yang dipergunakan untuk produksi biodiesel. CaO diperlukan sebagai katalis untuk reaksi transesterifikasi. Pada penelitian ini, katalis CaO dihasilkan dari kalsinasi limbah cangkang Bekicot (Achatina fulica) pada suhu 900 oC selama 10 jam.
