Agricultural waste biomass is explored as a sustainable precursor for activated carbon. In this study, rice husk-derived activated carbon (RHAC) was synthesized via microwave-assisted pyrolysis and KOH activation at 600, 700, and 800 °C. The KOH activation enhanced the thermal stability of the samples, with RHAC_700 exhibiting a spongy, interconnected structure and a surface area of 390.33 m² g⁻¹. When evaluated as a half-cell anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, RHAC_700 delivered an init...

Thermal Energy Storage (TES) systems are essential for managing low-grade heat in renewable energy applications. This study evaluates the impact of flow rate and heating power on thermal stratification and efficiency within a 30-liter TES unit. Using an AI-assisted simulation framework, the system's performance was analyzed across varying flow rates (0.3–0.9 LPM) and heater capacities (1.5–2.0 kW). Results indicate that lower flow rates (0.3–1.2 LPM) effectively preserve stratification, whereas...

Flooding increasingly threatens socio-economic resilience in Malaysia, particularly in vulnerable districts such as Padang Terap, Kedah. Using a GIS-based framework integrating Spatial Autocorrelation (Moran’s I) and Optimized Hotspot Analysis (Getis-Ord Gi*), this study quantifies spatial clustering of flood-prone areas across four inundation levels (0.3 m–3.7 m). Results reveal intensifying positive spatial autocorrelation with rising flood depths, reflecting hydrological connectivity and topo...

The Gunung Padang site in West Java is a cultural and historical tourism destination with great potential to attract domestic and international tourists. However, the promotion of this destination still faces several challenges, including limited infrastructure, suboptimal use of digital technology-based promotions, and a lack of strong synergy among stakeholders. This International Community Service Activity aims to develop an effective partnership model through the Penta Helix model, thereby s...

This study investigates the effect of magnetized water (MW) on the mechanical and microstructural properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC). Four mixes with identical proportions were prepared to isolate the influence of MW at different stages: SCNTN (normal water used in both mixing and curing), SCNTM (normal water in mixing and MW in curing), SCMTN (MW in mixing and normal water in curing), and SCMTM (MW used in both mixing and curing). Compressive strength tests were conducted at 7 and 28...

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A PIEZOELECTRIC PEDESTRIAN-POWERED ENERGY HARVESTING SYSTEM FOR SUSTAINABLE URBAN INSTALLATIONS
Teknika
Vol 10
, No 2
(2025)
This project proposes integrating a pedestrian-powered system into a public installation to create a renewable energy source in urban environments. The system utilizes piezoelectric sensors embedded in the sidewalk to convert mechanical energy from footsteps into electrical energy, which is then used to power lights and display kinetic movement in the art installation. The main goal of this project is to provide a participatory, environmentally friendly, and sustainable solution in the form of a...

This study presents the design and implementation of a Power Quality Network Analyzer (PQNA) employing an ESP32 microcontroller to monitor and analyze key power quality parameters, including voltage, current, power factor, and total harmonic distortion (THD) for each phase of a three-phase induction motor. Traditional monitoring systems rely on manual or fixed data acquisition methods, which are inadequate for achieving efficient real-time data analysis. In contrast, the proposed system utilizes...

(2025)
Advances in wearable technology are driving innovation in efficient, self-powered biomechanical monitoring systems. One promising approach uses piezoelectric sensors to generate energy while detecting foot (plantar pressure) during physical activity. This study aims to design and test a piezoelectric-based insole system capable of performing dual functions: harvesting mechanical energy from footsteps and analyzing fatigue patterns and gait asymmetry. The research used an experimental approach in...

This study aims to investigate the effect of increasing the concentration of natural filler on the mechanical properties of Spent Coffee Ground (SCG) / Coffee Husk (CH) reinforced epoxy matrix composite. The materials used in this study are epoxy resin as a matrix and waste coffee grounds and coffee husks as natural fillers with sizes of 100-mesh and concentrations of 10, 20, and 30 wt.%. The results showed that SCG 10 wt.% produced the best mechanical properties compared to the other samples ba...
