Perbedaan Kadar Hemoglobin Sebelum dan Sesudah Donor Darah di PMI Kabupaten Pemalang

Blood donation is a voluntary process where an individual donates their blood for the purpose of blood transfusions to patients in need. Beyond the immediate benefit of helping others, blood donation has also been found to have potential health benefits for the donor. Hemoglobin is a tetrameric protein found in erythrocytes, and it binds to non-protein molecules such as iron porphyrin compounds known as heme. This protein plays a critical role in transporting oxygen throughout the body. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of blood donation on hemoglobin levels before and after the donation process at PMI Pemalang Regency. This research employed an analytical design and involved 30 blood donors, with sampling performed using purposive sampling to select participants who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The hemoglobin levels were measured using Point of Care Testing (POCT) before and after the donation. The results of the study showed that all 30 participants (100%) experienced a decrease in their hemoglobin levels following the blood donation. The mean hemoglobin level of the participants before donation was 13.6 g/dl, which decreased to 11.6 g/dl after donation. These findings indicate that blood donation has a clear effect on hemoglobin levels in donors, with a significant reduction in hemoglobin levels post-donation. While this decrease in hemoglobin is a normal physiological response to blood donation, it highlights the importance of monitoring hemoglobin levels before and after donation to ensure that donors are not adversely affected. Furthermore, this research underscores the need for proper guidelines and recommendations for donors regarding safe and healthy blood donation practices.
