PERBEDAAN AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN DAUN WARU LAUT (Hibiscus tiliaceus L.) DAN KULIT BUAH MANGGIS (Garcinia Mangostana L.) MENGGUNAKAN METODE DPPH

📄 Abstract

Free radicals are the result of normal metabolism in the form of reactive oxygen compounds that have unpaired electrons and tend to be unstable. Free radicals can cause skin aging and can cause other effects such as skin cancer, therefore the role of antioxidants is very necessary for skin health. Sources of antioxidants can be obtained from natural ingredients, namely sea waru leaves (Hibiscus tiliaceus L.) and mangosteen rind (Garcinia Mangostana L.). Sea waru leaves contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins, while mangosteen rind contains polyphenol compounds, including anthocyanins, tannins, xanthones and phenolic acid compounds, both of which have potential antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in antioxidant activity of sea waru leaves and mangosteen rind using the DPPH method. This type of research is an experimental study with the independent variable being the type of extract and the dependent variable being antioxidant activity. The data obtained were processed using the T-Test. The results of the statistical test showed that there was no significant difference in the antioxidant activity of sea waru leaf extract with mangosteen rind extract (p>0.05).
