Workshop Polimer Terapan: Pembuatan Cat Berbasis Air pada Siswa Program Keahlian Teknik Kimia Industri (TKI) SMK Negeri 3 Kendal

Abstrak. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat bersama mitra para siswa Program Keahlian Teknik Kimia Industri (TKI) SMK Negeri 3 Kendal terlaksana pada tanggal 28 Oktober 2024. Pemilihan mitra didasarkan pada: (1) keahlian dari tim pengabdi di bidang Teknik Kimia khususnya bidang polimer; (2) keahlian tim pengabdi sesuai dengan tantangan yang sedang dihadapi mitra; (3) jarak lokasi tim pengabdi dan mitra yang relatif dekat membuat koordinasi sebelum, pada saat, dan pasca kegiatan menjadi lebih efisien. Permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra adalah bahwa para guru program keahlian TKI SMK Negeri Kendal mengalami kesulitan memberikan materi pembelajaran kepada para siswa melalui praktik langsung. Berdasarkan analisis situasi mitra, tim pengabdian dan mitra memutuskan untuk melakukan kegiatan dengan tema “workshop polimer terapan: pembuatan cat berbasis air”. Pelaksanaan kegiatan dibagi menjadi 3 sesi, yaitu: (1) penjelasan klasikal; (2) workshop/praktik langsung; (3) pengukuran kecepatan aliran cat. Hasil dari kegiatan workshop adalah bahwa siswa program keahlian TKI SMK Negeri 3 Kendal dapat lebih memahami tentang produk polimer terapan dan para guru dapat memberikan mata pelajaran dengan metode praktik langsung pembuatan cat berbasis air. Berdasarkan hasil pengisian kuesioner evaluasi kegiatan, rata-rata penilaian peserta adalah sebesar 4,725. Angka ini menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata peserta merasa puas dengan materi workshop yang dibawakan karena sesuai dengan kebutuhan peserta, dapat diterapkan, dan disampaikan dengan sistematika yang runtut. Selain itu, peserta merasa puas dengan penguasaan materi narasumber, penyajian materi, dan kesempatan tanya-jawab yang diberikan narasumber. Peralatan dan bahan disediakan sesuai kebutuhan peserta dan mudah didapat apabila para guru akan melakukan praktik pembuatan cat bersama siswa dikemudian hari.

Abstract. Community service with partners, students of the Industrial Chemical Engineering (TKI) Expertise Program of SMK Negeri 3 Kendal was carried out on October 28, 2024. The selection of partners was based on: (1) the expertise of the service team in the field of Chemical Engineering, especially in the field of polymers; (2) the expertise of the service team is in accordance with the challenges currently faced by the partners; (3) the relatively close location of the service team and partners makes coordination before, during, and after the activity more efficient. The problem faced by the partners was that the teachers of the TKI expertise program of SMK Negeri Kendal had difficulty providing learning materials to students through direct practice. Based on the analysis of the partner's situation, the service team and partners decided to carry out an activity with the theme "applied polymer workshop: making water-based paint". The implementation of the activity was divided into 3 sessions, namely: (1) classical explanation; (2) workshop/direct practice; (3) measuring the speed of paint flow. The results of the workshop activity were that students of the TKI expertise program of SMK Negeri 3 Kendal could better understand applied polymer products and the teachers could provide subjects with the direct practice method of making water-based paint. Based on the results of the activity evaluation questionnaire, the average participant rating was 4.725. This figure indicates that the average participant was satisfied with the workshop material presented because it was tailored to their needs, applicable, and presented in a coherent, systematic manner. Furthermore, participants were satisfied with the resource person's mastery of the material, the presentation of the material, and the opportunity for questions and answers provided by the resource person. Equipment and materials were provided according to the participants' needs and were easily accessible if teachers planned to practice making paint with students in the future.
