📄 Abstract

Fiber optic networks are the flagship of modern power communications with high-speed and long-distance transmission. This research analyzes the value and distribution of attenuation loss on the OTB of the Serang-Ciruas section for 11 km. Attenuation in fiber optics can reduce the quality of the optical signal. Internal or external factors can cause attenuation. The fiber optic cable transmission network is controlled using OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer). The results of measurements on the Serang-STO Ciruas link, as a sample, which is 11 km away, show that the attenuation of this fiber optic cable is 8,990 dB, which is caused by external factors, namely macrobending. Macrobending is a bend in the optical fiber that can cause light loss in the optical fiber; attenuation occurs due to poor fiber optic cable connections, too many connections, cables that are too old, or cables that are bent or twisted; this is what can happen. causes an attenuation value that is too large. If the attenuation value is too large, it can disrupt the transmission process.
