ABSTRACT
The poor quality of electricity is a very important problem in various fields, including: industry, hospitality, offices and others. Therefore, electricity can be said to be one of the main needs for supporting and fulfilling the needs of electricity customers. The supply of reliable and good quality energy cannot be separated from the quality of an electric power system. Any disturbance that occurs in the transformer can hinder the process of distributing electrical energy to consumers. Therefore, a reliable protection system is needed to protect the transformer from interference. The SPAJ 140C overcurrent relay is one of the backup protection relays used by PLN to protect the 150/20 kV (30 MVA) transformer at the Palur substation in Karanganyar Regency from interference. The purpose of this study was to determine the working ability of the SPAJ overcurrent relay. 140C as a backup relay in protecting the transformer. This research gives the result that with a large disturbance of 41 MW overload and 175,593 A overcurrent flowing in the transformer, Rely SPAJ 140C can work in 21.11 seconds. The value of the fault current flowing in the transformer is a very small value, so the SPAJ 140C relay also works for a long time.
