Kota Semarang merupakan kota metropolitan terbesar ke-5 se-Indonesia dengan angka kecelakaan lalu lintas yang dapat dikatakan tinggi. Dalam laporan tahunan Satlantas Kota Semarang dari tahun 2017, 2018 berurutan telah terjadi sebanyak 936 kasus dan 1.008 kasus.
